| “Rock and Water Program” was co coordinated by Mr Thomas with Hernani and Dundurrabin Public Schools. This was a fantastic program which targeted boys education and was aimed at developing self awareness, self confidence and self control. Boys from both schools combined twice a week to carryout tasks and work on the program with Mr Thomas. This was very successful and beneficial for the students involved and Concluded with a “Low Ropes” challenge/team building course at Cascade environmental education centre. All students participated in the 3 way interviews held to discuss the educational progress of students which included the child, parent and teacher. Our school captain participated in a leadership programs at with other small schools in our network. Then she lead a peer support program at Hernani applying many aspects of her training. Technology skills were a focus this year with touch typing, digital presentations, animation movies and digital photography. Health and safety talks included, First Aid, Life Education, Bike and Road safety. | Through our successful grant application Hernani has been running the Active After Schools Sessions which has been extremely beneficial and enjoyable. Two parents have been assisting in the delivery of the sporting skills program each week. A pet education session was held this year where an officer from Grafton RSPCA facilitated strategies to manage animals which the children enjoyed. Links with other schools were made as students visited Urunga Public School for a day of collaborative team building skills, email pals with Scott’s Head Public School via the internet and numerous Sporting and Cultural days with Dundurrabin, Ebor, Nymboida and Orama Public Schools.Students took an active role in Clean Up Australia Day. Environmental Education was an active element this year with students carrying out environmental audits, participating in studies at Cascade Environmental Education centre as well as maintaining our beautification project for the school where the students created anew garden. Hosting two Bhutanese Teachers was a wonderful Cultural event for the students and community. This was an extremely beneficial experience for the students giving them a first hand insight to another way of life. |
